Railroads were the primary mode of transportation in the United States from the 1820s through the 1940s. Historians regard railroads as being America’s first large-scale business, which because it was labor intensive, employed millions. By 1920, one in every 50 Americans were employed by the railroads. Railroad construction also attracted thousands of immigrants, including Chinese, Germans, Italians, and Irish laborers. Many personnel records from the various railroads have been misplaced or destroyed over the years, however, where they have survived, these personnel records are very detailed. Our seminar will discuss various resources and strategies help trace your railroad worker ancestors.
This speaker will be presenting in person, please mark your calendars to attend in person. If you are out of town or unable to attend in person there will be a Zoom link sent out to paid members only the week before the presentation.
