Bryan Mulcahy - Reference, Genealogical, and Literacy Librarian at Lee County Library System.

Libraries with genealogical or local history departments offer an array of resources and, more important, the expertise of staff who know how to use them. The most prominent resources usually include US and state censuses, vital statistics indexes, cemetery records, newspaper collections, historical maps and city directories, diaries and family papers, and these are just the print offerings.  Most will also offer free access to genealogical research databases such as Ancestry Library Edition, Family Search, Find My Past, Fold 3, and My Heritage.   This discussion will give some of the best ways to prepare for a research visit to your library to obtain the best results.  

Bryan Mulcahy has been the adult reference, genealogy, and literacy librarian at the Lee County Library System for the past 31 years.   He received his  Masters of Library Sciences at Florida State University in 1984 and for the next 6 years worked as the reference, genealogy, and circulation librarian in Georgia.   Over the years Bryan has kept abreast with the newest genealogical technologies as they became a part of the library system.  

Bryan has been an important friend of our society over the years through article submissions to our monthly newsletter and genealogical tips to help in our research. He has spoken to our membership quite often over the years and lectures on a regular basis at the Lee County Library and others.
